Western music reached a pinnacle of intellectual height, technical excellence, and artistic beauty in the works of 18th-century composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Dr. Mangalwadi compares him to a musical icon of our age: rock legend Kurt Cobain. Both Bach and Cobain lost their parents at the age of nine. Bach's faith enabled him to overcome suffering. Cobain's atheism led him to despair and suicide. Cobain's album Nevermind touched the cords of our generation because it reflected the values of apathy and indifference inherent in nihilism.
