In this lecture, Dr. Vishal Mangalwadi explains why the postmodern West is becoming a culture of desperate housewives. It is turning men into boys who cannot take responsibility for the women they love and the children they produce. Dr. Mangalwadi explains how a special understanding of family was the source of the West's strength. For 450 years, our unique ideas of sex and marriage were shaped by Martin Luther's exposition of the Bible. The definition of marriage as monogamy, or lifelong relationship of one man to one woman, is not a common sense view. It is a uniquely New Testament idea based on the assumption that God made one Eve for Adam. Monogamy is a challenging ideal and cannot be sustained without God's grace. Non-Christian cultures have always preferred the easier route of polygamy, which degrades women. Fifty years ago, Hugh Hefner, the founder of the Playboy enterprise, introduced to the West one of the most irresponsible versions of polygamy.
