Product Description

This lecture was delivered days after a jury found a 23-year-old British woman, Samina Malik, guilty of possessing terrorist literature. The lecture traces the history of tolerance from 17th-century philosopher John Locke, who defended freedom of belief and expression, to Ms. Malik, who was convicted for her faith in radical Islam, and for expressing her religious ideas in poetry. Dr. Vishal Mangalwadi, who has written a brief history of tolerance in his book Missionary Conspiracy, argues that Ms. Malik is the victim of a secular, postmodern, pluralist education. Contemporary British culture taught her that no one knows the truth; therefore, beliefs and values are not true or false, good or bad, but cool, hot, or boring. In contrast to this destructive postmodern outlook, Dr. Mangalwadi explains that tolerance was institutionalized as a public policy to make it possible for people to seek truth and find it. He goes on to explain what would have happened if Ms. Malik had helped terrorists blow up a plane or two. The relatives of the victims would have had to pay advocates to defend her in British courts. Why? Because the Western institution of advocacy was built on some unique theological ideas. Secular rejection of these biblical ideas has robbed the institution of its sense and legitimacy.

This is an MP3 download of the 9th lecture of Dr. Vishal Mangalwadi's series entitled Must the Sun Set on the West. No physical product will be shipped.
